PAEDIATRIC PODIATRY CONSULTATIONS

Suffolk Sports Injury Clinic also offer Paediatric Podiatry Consultations.  Paediatric Podiatry is the diagnosis and treatment of foot problems that may afflict infants and children.

Foot and lower limb problems that are commonly found in children and infants are:

  •  flat feet
  • bowed legs, which an infant may be born with due to positioning in the womb;
  • toe walking
  • in-toeing (pigeon toed)
  • knock knees.

From the age of three years onwards a child’s foot has usually developed sufficiently for insoles to be prescribed if necessary.  It is perfectly normal for a child’s feet to appear to be a little “flat”, however,  children who trip regularly, in-toe, appear to have an abnormal gait pattern or abnormal wear on their shoes or complain of aching legs or feet may benefit from an paediatric podiatry assessment.

PAEDIATRIC SPORTS INJURIES

Paediatric Sports Podiatry is the biomechanical assessment and treatment of children who train and/or compete in sports.  Common injuries in children who participate in sport are:

  • heel pain
  • knee pain
  • ankle pain
  • foot pain.

These conditions can commonly be as a result of poor foot biomechanics.

A clinical diagnosis, advice and a treatment plan to resolve the presenting condition and prevent it from happening again are of utmost importance for a young athlete to return to sport at the earliest opportunity.
